Codex Leicester at MIA

Last night I visited the current exhibition at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, “Leonardo Da Vinci: The Codex Leiceister & The Creative Mind.” 72 pages of his notes and drawings about the natural world on on display.

I don’t read Italian (and certainly not backwards Italian from 1508!) and I don’t have a terribly scientific brain so I can’t claim to have understood many of his theories but the exhbition does a great job of explaining a few key ideas from each page. What I do understand is the importance of this work – Da Vinci helped pioneer a scientific method that changed the world.

Standing just inches away from these pages and seeing the notes, sketches, and theories of Da Vinci up close is an amazing and moving experience. I highly recommend it!
