Tonight is Third Thursday – Art of Food @artsmia

Are you feeling the rainy day blues? Want to end the day with something bright and cheery? Well, it’s the third Thursday of the month and that means Third Thursday at Mia!

Forget about the gray and stormy skies when you check out van Gogh’s Irises, on loan to the museum as part of its birthday celebration. This iconic work is only here until October 4th so tonight’s event is a great chance to see it before it returns home to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

This month’s Third Thursday is “Art of Food,” in celebration of the opening night of “Ferran Adrià: Notes on Creativity.” You may recall a few weeks ago when I posted a rather excited blurb about this exhibit and some of the events paired with it – namely the talk and tasting on October 9th. (Side note: The talk sold out immediately but there are still tickets available for the tasting. Seriously, this is an AMAZING opportunity.)

In keeping with the theme of food, tonight’s event includes some of the area’s best food trucks, a food poster show, the chance to “play with your food, artfully,” and the opportunity to letterpress a recipe card. As if that weren’t enough to make it a great night, there will also be live music from local band Fury Things. BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! Mia just announced a “chef-inspired surprise Etsy pop-up shop!” If you need a gift for the foodie in your life (even if that’s YOU), this is the place to go. The shop will be open through the holidays.

Best of all? This whole party is FREE. (Obviously, you have to buy your own food and drinks, but admission and participation is free.) In fact, did you know that Mia is free all day, every day? Some of the special exhibits have a fee but the museum itself is open to the public for free. This is an amazing resource.

In an effort to get more people excited about art, membership is now available at any price – including no price at all. That’s right, you can even be a member FOR FREE. Obviously they (and I) hope you will give what you can to keep this amazing resource running but any membership option gives you a plethora of perks like a discount in the shop, free admission to paid exhibitions on certain days, and discounts on other special events (like the Adrià tasting).

Hopefully I’ll see you tonight!
